Name: Micha Henkel

Job position: Apprentice - Industrial mechanic and representative of apprentices
Working at KELLER HCW since 2012 (4th year of apprenticeship)

"Not everything is done in a training workshop: you work under real conditions on a real shop-floor“

Why did you choose to start an apprenticeship at KELLER HCW?

I did work experience weeks here and I liked it a lot. So I applied for an apprenticeship..

What is your daily routine at work?

I am in the company four days per week and one day at vocational school. In the morning, I start work shortly after 6 o'clock. Then you work in the sections where you are currently appointed to. I go home around 2:30 pm.

I am a representative of the apprentices and take part in a meeting of the Works Council every two weeks.

What makes KELLER HCW a good company for apprentices?

You get a really good preparation for your tests and you are allowed the time you need to learn. Moreover, you do not only work in a training workshop as in many other companies. You can work in real departments.

I also think it is a good idea that KELLER HCW cooperates with Hansefit. It is a fine opportunity for recreation, you only pay low fees for gyms, swimming pools and the like.

What is your recommendation for candidates who wish to make the same apprenticeship?

I recommend to do work experience weeks, especially to get an idea whether the job suits you. I don't think that someone quits an apprenticeship because of the working hours, but to get up at five o'clock in the morning can be a real hardship sometimes. In your work experience weeks you only start at seven in the morning but that is hard as well at first. Therefore, I just recommend work experience weeks.

Job position: Apprenticeship - Industrial mechanic

Working at KELLER HCW since 2013 (3rd year of apprenticeship)

"I personally like it that I am entrusted with tasks I have to fulfil on my own.“

Why did you choose to start an apprenticeship at KELLER HCW?

Frankly, my uncle and my cousin are already working here at KELLER HCW. I then went to the company's stand on a career choice day and I searched for information on the Internet. I wanted to become an industrial mechanic and the company offered apprenticeships.

What is your daily routine at work?

We are working in multiple departments and it is different everywhere.

What makes KELLER HCW a good company for apprentices?

I personally like it that I am entrusted with tasks I have to fulfil on my own. The foremen and the skilled workers give me tasks and I fulfil them independently and when I need help I can ask anytime.

What is your recommendation for candidates who wish to make the same apprenticeship?

You should gather as much information on the job as you can and think twice whether the job will suit you. Moreover, the company is important and so is the product. Here I learn a lot about the heavy clay sector and the entire industry. In other companies you can at a later time become familiar with other fields. Therefore, it makes a difference, depending on which company you start your apprenticeship.

"From raw material processing to test runs: you get to know everything"

Why did you choose to start an apprenticeship at KELLER HCW?

I always heard good things about KELLER, for example, from my family who also worked here. Here in the area you often hear how versatile the work is at Keller. In any case, it was the right decision to start my apprenticeship here.

What is your daily routine at work?

My everyday work life depends on the department where I currently am. Often you accompany a skilled worker and assist him in his work. They show you work procedures and methods and explain a lot. You are slowly introduced to everything and are often allowed to work independently.

During the first two years of our training I went to school two days per week, during the third year school is only day per week.

What makes KELLER HCW a good company for apprentices?

The work here is very versatile. This is mainly because you experience production processes right from the start to the end. From raw material processing to test runs: you get to know everything. That's why it is so full of variety. In addition, the trainers and the foremen are working in close cooperation with us.

What is your recommendation for candidates who wish to make the same apprenticeship?

In any case, they should apply. I can only advise this to anyone. You learn a lot here and you have a perspective. The perspective is a permanent employment. If you want it you can stay here after your training. Often the young colleagues work together in one department, and the atmosphere is very good and you get along well with colleagues and foremen.
