Further development of the successful PTFE film skiving machine from KELLER HCW

[August 2010] The economic manufacturing of high-quality films made from PTFE, HD-PE and other synthetic materials is achieved by using special machines from KELLER HCW during the skiving procedure.

The blocks to be skived are often impregnated with graphite, copper, glass or other additives in order to match the characteristics with those of a film.

At the film skiving procedure the film is peeled with a knife at the circumference of the block using a precision machine. The film thicknesses that can be achieved are dependant on the material used, but are between a min. of approx. 20 µm and a max. of 6 mm at a film width of up to 1600 mm.

Depending on the film thickness it can be operated at skiving speeds of up to 20 m/min. The diameter of the material to be skived is between 180 mm and 800 mm.

Depending on further processing, the peeled film is reeled onto a skiving mandrel. The skiving machines for synthetic materials quoted by KELLER HCW can also be fitted with additional equipment such as automatic film length separation for the manufacturing of film strips or film winding equipment. Reeling of the film can be achieved using machinery specially manufactured for this purpose, which does away with separate controls for the peeling and winding tensions.

Particular attention is paid to the control of the skiving machine. As a result, the swivelling control panel is adapted to the requirements of the user and enables the machine to be controlled from different positions. At the modern touch panel all main functions are entered directly and intuitively.

An exact and reliable rpm-demand for the skiving speed as well as integrated film length measuring are some examples of innovative control.

The application range for PTFE films are many, mainly in the chemical apparatus engineering, in aircraft construction and in the aerospace industry. There the films are used, amongst other things, for coating, lining and sealing.
