"Carrying bricks to Tula..."
Vyacheslav Dudka, governor of the Russian Tula region, informed himself about the progress of the construction work at the "Obidimo brickworks", Leninsky district.
[April 2009] The brickworks, built in 1914, had been out of service for the last 14 years. Shortly after the opening in the 90ies the new production halls were closed without even ever being able to work to full capacity. And the brick factory would still be out of operation if regional administration had not started to find new investors...
In 2008 a contract, worth 3,2 billion rubles, was signed at the "Third Tula Economic Forum" concerning the investment project for the reconstruction of the "Obidimo brickworks". At present, the new factory owners have already been able to usher in the last phase of modernization.
At his visit the governor of the Tula region got acquainted with the future production halls. He furthermore informed himself about the time schedule of the construction work, the future output of the company and the advantages of the manufactured products in comparison to competitor products. The governor expressed that he places his hopes in this state-of-the-art production site that is going to produce an annual amount of about 105 million bricks in 70 different formats and under environmentally friendly conditions.
"This brickworks has not only importance for the region, but also for Russia." the governor was convinced of. "It is going to be one of the biggest companies of central Russia. The next closest factory with a comparable output is more than 700 km away from Moscow. Here, a modern, high-tech production site is going to be established, which will be able to deal with the most difficult challenges."
Vyacheslav Dudka furthermore remarked that, due to the project, about 500 people will be employed. This will not only contribute to future economic growth and infrastructural development in the Obidimo region but will affect the whole Leningrad district.
"We already have a set of suggestions concerning the modernization of future production sites." the governor provided insight into future plans. "At present we contemplate the possibilities of further investments. The financial crisis notwithstanding, we are going to continue our work on similar projects."
The major task of the local Tula administration is to attract as many investors as possible to the region. The system of issuing certificates and the assistance of major investors willing to settle has fundamentally been reformed. Investors will find continuous support in all purchase and transaction negotiations.
"Investors have realized that we do not let them down." the governor stated. "For the case that a company will not be profitable in the beginning, we will stand by them till the very “successful end”. We are furthermore more than willing to support social projects of investors. There already are some social programs concerning the Obidimo region as well as the Leninsky district in progress."
Oleg Tatarinow, president of the Tula regional parliament, shares the governor’s view. He too thinks that the attraction of major investors will contribute to the development of new industrial plants in the region as well as to the improvement of people’s quality of life.
"Last year the regional parliament has – on the recommendation of the governor – passed a bill on investment activities in the Tula region that offers substantial support to potential investors." Oleg Tatarinow explained. "This provides a good basis for investments, which our region, without doubt, necessarily needs. But even this single brickworks here is not only a very powerful and sufficient enterprise which will help increase tax revenue and workforce, but it will even help to cope with future problems. Its new technologies allow for the future to cope with the problem of constructing houses that consist of only few floors. It will even help to put the national housing project “Affordable and Comfortable Housing for Russian Citizens” into action..."
At the end of his visit, the governor was invited to put the last stone into the fundament of the future kiln of the "Obidimo brickworks". Let’s hope that the signatures on it from Vyacheslav Dudka (governor), Oleg Tatarinow (president of the Tula regional parliament) and Michail Iwanzew (president of the local government of Leninsky district) will bring the young company luck. Maybe some day bricks from Tula will be as famous as the well-known samovar factories of Tula.
