Röben is building a new clinker plant in Bannberscheid
[December 2007] Röben Tonbaustoffe GmbH has awarded a contract for the construction of a new ceramic clinker production plant to KELLER HCW, the company based in Laggenbeck, Germany. It will be erected on the site of its existing plant in Bannberscheid (Westerwald region) and will replace the old production facility.
The Bannberscheid plant has been in operation since 1970 and continually updated to keep pace with technical development. Now Röben is taking a big step forward and building a completely new production facility with an investment of € 24 mill. Röben does not see the current severe recession on the German market as an obstacle to this investment. "In the Westerwald region we have first-class raw materials and a team with considerable know how," explained Managing Director Wilhelm Renke Röben.
The capacity will be adjusted to current market situation and, with a unit number of 18 mill. standard size ceramic clinkers per year, will fall below the current level. There will be one kiln instead of two, but three instead of two production lines. With regard to the surfaces, colours and sizes, the product range will be extended.
The production capacity for clinker strip tiles will be increased to 20 mill. units per year. Here Röben considers itself well equipped to meet the growing demand in the renovation market.
With the modern production facilities and the reduction of energy costs by around 20 %, Röben aims to improve its competitiveness and secure the future of the company base in Bannberscheid in the long term. The product range comprises facing bricks, clinkers, paving clinkers, flat split tiles and split tiles. The new plant guarantees high flexibility both for changing the product body and the size as well as with regard to ratio of facing bricks to split tiles.
The new facility will be constructed largely parallel to production at the existing plant. The foundations for the new plant will be laid in March next year. The first test firings are scheduled before Christmas 2008. Production will only be suspended for two months.
With the new plant in Bannberscheid, Röben is reaffirming its commitment to Germany as a production base. Just one year ago, in October 2006, Röben started up a new paving clinker plant at its headquarters in Zetel between Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven. In the last five years, around € 60 mill. alone have been invested in the renewal and expansion of the company’s German production facilities.
