Brickworks Hedikhuizen solemnly opened

[September 2007] At the end of September, one of the most modern European brickworks was officially opened in the Dutch village of Hedikhuizen near the historian city ’s-Hertogenbosch.

Facing bricks in the basic size of Dick and Waal bricks have already been produced in Hedikhuizen since 1968. In 2001 the Brickyard Duijs was taken over by the Belgium family-owned company Vandersanden – a company that is not only known for its wide assortment of handmoulded bricks, but also for its excellent client service in regard to the wishes and demands of its customers.

Besides facing bricks, the company Huwa also produces paving bricks and enjoys the reputation as a fair business partner even beyond national borders. The joint venture of both companies under the name HUWA VANDERSANDEN aimed at combining the strength of both partners and at obtaining synergy effects. This strategy proved successful in such a way that – due to the great demand on the market – it was decided to build an entire new production plant. On a production area of about 2 ha, a triplication of the production rate from 25 million bricks up to 75 million bricks shall be achieved. The investment costs of 40 million euros were shared by both partners.

After a short construction time of only nine months, three linked halls, featured with state-of-the-art technology, were built. The entire machinery, a chamber dryer, transporting devices and a tunnel kiln were supplied by KELLER HCW. The press was supplied by the Dutch company De Boer. The old plant was torn down and serves today as a stockyard.

The commissioning of the brickworks began in March 2007. All performance tests were successfully executed in August. Besides the whole production range of HUWA VANDERSANDEN, the brand-new showroom is particularly quite impressive as it offers a splendid view over the modern production plant.
